There are a lot of repackagings of Jim Reeves material going on around the world, some authorized and some bootleg. His recordings are still selling so well that one of his collections topped the Spice Girls on the charts in Denmark in March 1998. Jim had the #8 best-selling release for 1997 in Australia, and another of his repackagings hit the top of the British charts last Christmas. In America, two of Jim's compilations (issued through Readers Digest) were certified Platinum in April 1998 by the R.I.A.A.

One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes not all the songs contained in an offering are derivative of studio masters. Also, in certain instances, live recordings are used to supplement songs Jim did in the studio -- hence, their quality may not be as good. When in doubt, ask.

BMG has recently issued on CD some of Jim's greatest LPs (see below).

JIM REEVES AND FRIENDS:
RADIO DAYS

Back in the late 1950s and early '60s, Jim Reeves recorded a series of transcription shows for the Air Force called "Country Music Time." It is these programs -- not one of which has been commercially available since the day it aired -- that make up this 116-song, 4 CD set. This is a fascinating look at the country legend at his relaxed, informal best, performing rare versions of hits like "He'll Have to Go" and "Four Walls" as well as personal favorites like "Roly Poly" and "The Wind-Up." Guests include Chet Atkins, the Louvin Brothers, Jean Shepard,
Stringbean and Del Wood among others, not to mention Jim's usual band, the Blue Boys. With the typical, big Bear Family booklet, this set is a nice bookend to the label's mammoth set of Jim's complete RCA sides. (CPBCD62742) -- CD $89.95

WELCOME TO MY WORLD (Bear)

This comprehensive career retrospective includes all of Jim's recordings for Macy's, Fabor, Abbott, and RCA. All the overdubbed demos that charted are here, as well as many of Jim's known demo recordings. It's a colossal and fitting tribute to a man who did more than anyone to bring country music to a wider audience, particularly in Europe. All told, there are 447 recordings (some in stereo for the first time), and many rare recordings and collectors' items. Includes a 126-page oversize book.
