This website is
pleased to be able to present -- exclusively here and nowhere
else -- some very special Jim Reeves performances, which include
songs fans have never heard Jim sing before!
"SAN
ANTONIO ROSE" In his personal
appearances, Jim not only did his hits, but often sang other
songs that people requested, including ones he never got around
to recording in the studio. This song falls in that category.
It is a wonderful rarity. The audio on this is not the best but
we hope to post a better version without distortion as soon as
possible.
"KENTUCKY
WALTZ" (Radio transcription)
"I
WONDER" (Radio transcription)
"DANNY
BOY" This bootleg recording from
a live concert is exceedingly rare -- the only other example
of Jim singing "Danny Boy" live is on the "Jim
Reeves On Stage" album.
"WHAT
WOULD YOU DO" This is from a pre-show
rehearsal recorded by an overseas disc jockey, Paul Crier, of
the Armed Forces Network during Jim's visit to Hamburg, Germany
in 1964. Notice the bystanders present during the rehearsal even
applaud Jim. Small wonder. His rich, velvet voice sounds tremendous.
Also, note Leo Jackson's exceptional guitar work (was he trying
to imitate Chet Atkins?). And even Dean Manuel on piano sounds
like he's imitating Floyd Cramer's bent-note style. (Floyd was
also on the tour). Crier explains how the recording came into
existence and that Jim himself heard it weeks later and liked
it. Paul also shares his impressions of Reeves. You will notice
that his characterizations are drastically different than the
image of Jim Reeves portrayed by author Streissguth. Is that
surprising?).
"POOR
LITTLE DOLL" An unreleased, unfinished
"scratch" overdub that shows what potential exists
for Jim's recordings to be recycled and updated. This fabulous
song is augmented by strings, piano and bass, giving it a fuller
sound than the original. Sorry, but I can only share part of
the song with you at this time!

to Tony Wall for his assistance in formatting these audio files).
